Mr. Tognolini is the Manager of Water Supply Improvements for East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD). Since 2005, he has been responsible for long-range water supply planning and the development of new sources of water supply for EBMUD, including groundwater storage, water transfers, desalination, and water recycling. Mr. Tognolini led the District’s efforts to construct the Freeport Regional Water Project in Sacramento and San Joaquin Counties. The $900 Million project will supply much needed water to Sacramento County and EBMUD customers to supplement existing water supplies. In addition, Mr. Tognolini is currently leading EBMUD’s Water Supply Management Program (WSMP) 2040, a comprehensive water supply plan for the District for the next 3 decades. As a part of the program, he is also responsible for implementing EBMUD’s Climate Change adaptation strategy.

Mr. Tognolini has worked on water resources planning and development projects for EBMUD since 1996. Prior to EBMUD, he served as a consulting engineer at Kennedy Jenks Consultants in San Francisco, performing water resources studies, hydrologic modeling, and groundwater management planning. Mr. Tognolini has a BS in Civil Engineering and an MS in Environmental Fluid Mechanics and Hydrology from Stanford University.

EBMUD is the retail water utility serving 1.3 million residents in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and supplies water and provides wastewater treatment for major portions of this service area. EBMUD also protects and manages 55,000 acres of watershed lands in the Coastal and in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It provides recreational services within its watershed lands. EBMUD is a public agency, governed by a seven member elected Board of Directors.
